Hi, I'm new to this website but needed a bit of advice! I have been referred to the breast clinic due to pain in my right breast (since January) the dr thought it was mastitis so she put me on antibiotics but I didn't breastfeed my son and he's now 11! The antibiotics took about 80% of the pain away but a few weeks after it came back! I was told by one nurse there was "something there" and the next day I was told by a dr that she couldn't fee anything! I've tried new bras, sports bras and not wearing any bras but the pain is awful! I'm worried that in wasting the hospitals time but at the same time I have no idea what's causing it! Please can anyone reassure me and if anyone else has been in this situation? Much appreciated

I was referred for similar and had mammogram and examination by consultant - was clear but was very reassured and think if they refer you you should go. The upshot was that random breast pain seems quite common and I was told to use ibuprofen gel on area. Bizarrely it went of it's own accord.

If it is mastitis (rare in non breastfeeding women but it does happen) then it can sometimes take a longer course of antibiotics to clear up. I hope you get answers soon!

Thank you, She won't put me on anymore antibiotics, my ultrasound is on Friday, I know it's nothing serious but I've never had a sore boob like this before!

I hope your appointment put your mind to rest too. I do know how you feel, but you should never think you are wasting the medics' time. They all want to find 'nothing' - they all want you to be well. I hope you'll let us know how you got on.

Hi there! Thank you both for your responses, They did the ultrasound and said it was all due to hormonal issues, and the fact I have a coil at 33 was probably causing it. She recommended I take a break from the coil and try alternative contraception but I can't go on the pill and the implant scares the life out of me! Guess i read too many stories relating to it. Anyway no follow up necessary but definitely glad I went!

Smile

Is your problem still ongoing? I have had severe breast pain that has been put due to hormones but am not happy with diagnosis. Has your pain eased up as mine got worse when cool was taken out??!!
