Is this really what they like or what we want them to like?

For example my DD used to go nuts to:

Hey Girl Hey Boy - Chemical Bros
Blue Monday - New Order
Hey Ya - Outkast
Love will tear us apart - Joy Division

But i think that's because we used to play that stuff to her

Now she likes:

Go Baby Go - The Noisettes
That's not my name - The Ting Ting's
Mamma Mia - Abba
Any song from Sleeping Beauty or Cinderella

It will be soul-destroying when she starts getting into mindless teen pop...

My children love 2 Unlimited as well. Cheesy 80s stuff goes down well. Used to play dd Baby Led Zeppelin when she was tiny to get her to sleep. Works well.

DD (aged 2.10) is very keen on this: Wheels on the Bus in the style of Madonna's "Ray of Light"

DH has recently been trying to teach her the words of "Video Killed the Radio Star" and she is making good progress...

Also she keeps asking me to play The Spice Girls (I am rueing the day that I first played that CD to her!!)

Currently Reggaeton Ninos - it's a CD of sanitised kids versions of reggaeton hits (I don't know if reggaeton is big in the UK - it's a kind of Latin dance music). It's fantastic, though kinda hard to take before breakfast

Before that the big hit in our house was They Might Be Giants' "Here come the 123s". Won a grammy this year

DD#1 used to be big into Missy Elliot too, thankfully she mauled the CDs so much they were unplayable before she started to ask me about what the words meant

That's not my name - The Ting Ting's

Kids are crazy about this song - I was DJing at a kids disco last weekend and they went mental when I played this (this and Sacha Baron Cohen's version of "We like to move it move it" from Madagascar)

2.7 DS gets in the car and automatically asks for the ting tings now.

But we are getting into Blur now, he calls 'Song 2' the 'woo hoo' song. Foo Fighters and Red Hot Chilli Peppers seem to go down well. I burnt a cd that doesn't have any swear words on it so we can all listen to it.
