Hi,
I am mum to 2 children on the autistic spectrum and strongly suspect I am on there too. I was quiried over dyspraxia as a child but never assessed (used to fall flat on my face and not put my hands out). how do you go about getting an assessment as an adult and how much does it usually cost? Do you have to declare a diagnosis if they diagnose you? Would I have to tell my gp/future employers etc? I really want to know for my own knowledge really and feel daft about talking to the gp about it. What assessment do they do? My children had ados testing, do they use these for adults too? I have no family members who could comment on my growing up but my husband has known me since I was 11 (though he is very sure he is on the autistic spectrum too).

Hmm see I don't work so I kind of manage to avoid the things I can't cope with! Like I have a drivers license but don't use it because driving stresses me out way too much. I have other chronic issues which probably impact more than sensory/social issues but I think it's a combination of everything. That said I'm generally pretty upbeat so probably am below the threshold?

I do think it would explain so much of my life and I see so many similarities in my daughter who is diagnosed. I've been to several talks recently and the more I read and hear the more I realise I tick lots of the boxes. These things just weren't acknowledged when we were young and I've always been 'quiet' and 'good' iykwim. Interestingly lots of girls in my family have a diagnosis and historically I had an aunt with a juvenile schizophrenia diagnosis too. Diagnosis would purely be for my information though as I don't work or need an explanation for anything iykwim.

I have just had one - the pricing may vary depending on circumstances and who you do it with - I had mine with Maxine Ashton. - it was £450 in total.

I have had mine since It would be useful to have it official as I am wanting to futureproof myself for the sake of my family after what has been a particularly difficult spring.
