First holiday with twins

Hi - just thinking about organising a summer holiday with twins (who aren't quite here yet) and 5 year old.
Twins would be around 6/7 months.
Would we be mental to consider flying anywhere at this age?! I flew with my son at around the same time and it was fine but I'm just not sure how it would work with two babies?

Would we be better off just booking a self catering option in the uk and leaving overseas trips until they're older?

Would really appreciate any tips and recommendations from parents of multiples.

Thanks so much

We did it when our twins were round that age because my father-in-law lives in Spain. It's hard but do-able. Keep the flight short! The hardest is the logistics of both having a babe-in-arms. When boarding the plane with the babies, hand luggage, feeding equipment etc, we simply had to ask fellow passengers to hold a baby, just so we could fold the buggy down! People will help though.

It's best to get aisle seats across from one another so you can get up and walk about and shuffle things between you. But basically accept that you won't be able to rummage in your hand luggage or buy a cup of tea or whatever because both of you will have your arms full of baby.

The plus side is that at that age, they aren't mobile and they nap! So when you are away, you should be able to get into a nice holiday routine (we had a lovely hour or so by the pool every day, reading our books while the girls napped in the pram).

Best tip I got (if you are bottle feeding) is that you can order all baby stuff such as bulky formula to the airport Boots and click-and-collect it after security, so you don't have to squeeze it into a tight luggage allowance.

We haven’t yet flown with our twins who are nearly 14 months so can’t help you on that, however we are on our way back from the 4th long car journey time away. Each journey we’ve done has been over 10 hours and it’s really been pretty fine. Gone on trips when 4, 6, 9, 13 months. We could have flown for these but I was put off by the amount of stuff required! At least you can shove it all in the car!

Have a look at Tots to Travel holidays. They have hotel rooms and private villas that are catered around babies and toddlers. Monitors, cots, sterlisers, toys, stair gates provided and safety checks done.
