27 Weeks Heart Palpitations

Hi ladies, I'm currently 27 weeks pregnant with my twins & I've just started experiencing heart palpitations. I went to the doctors this morning & they did an ECG. They said my heart was fast but this can be normal during pregnancy. I didn't experience it with my son so maybe it's just a twin thing. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? x

Hey, I'm 24 weeks pregnant with twins and I sometimes get heart palpitations too, just think it's our hearts working overtime!

I had them from around the same time as you. I have a benign heart murmur, so checked them out with my midwife and an obstetrician, and both assured me it was a very common pregnancy symptom. My BP did rise at the end of my pregnancy- not sure if that was related or not- but have had echocardiogram done since to check, and my heart is perfectly healthy still!

If you're worried, do see your Gp and mention to your midwife though.

Have your iron levels been checked recently? That was what caused my palpitations. One of the usual blood tests was missed in my twin pregnancy and it was only after echocardiogram and walking monitor test etc came back normal anyone thought to check my iron Hmm. I ended up needing iron injections. I think palpitations are fairly common in pregnancy even when nothing wrong though but worth seeing midwife or gp again if you are worried.

I had them in my second (not twin) pregnancy and was told it's normal because of the heart working harder due to increased blood volume in the body. It's still happening now 3 months after the birth though Confused
