I am really enjoying this - about two thirds of the way through. I was so pleased to receive it as I was hoping not to receive something I had read before or something 'too heavy' Blush. This book was a lovely surprise as it is refreshingly different and set in a period of history that I love. I also am interested in the publishers and the list of other books that have been published. The characters are extremely well written.

Thank you SteamedTreacleSponge Smile.

Finished this the other night - it's a type of writing that I generally find quite annoying, but this ended up winning me over with its down-to-earth brand of feminism, encouraging women to enjoy their bodies (lots of kissing) and keep odd hours with whatever company they please.

I loved this book. I think it's creeping onto my all time fave list and that I might need to go buy a copy as I have a habit of repeatedly rereading books I love. It had cracking pace, great humour, was light and punchy but still quite a shrewd social commentary. Thanks SteamedTreacleSponge, it's a gem.

Oh and based on this year's swaps, I think I'm just going to amazon search every book with 'Pettigrew' in the title!

I loved this book. I already had a copy sitting on my shelf waiting to be read (I thoroughly recommend Persephone books and their monthly book service.) but had yet to even open it.

It made me laugh out loud and the pace of the day was perfect. Thankyou.

Snappy and fast paced and funny with a lovely ending. A little too wordy in places, so much information in a page I frequently found myself rereading a paragraph and wishing I was further on but overall a good story.

I agree about Tigger's Pettigrew comments. Both books have been winners for me.

I finished this in one (long) sitting on the same day I received it. It's a fantastic book, I absolutely loved it and was left smiling at the end. Great choice!

I am not quite so enthusiastic as others have been about this book, although I did finish it and quite enjoyed it.
As the book is moved along mostly by dialogue, it felt at times as if I was reading a play. This was Ok in the beginning, a bit of a novelty, but by the end I really found the book lacked depth and was rather shallow, not enough substance to be really engaging.
As it was presented as a rags-to-riches/Cinderella-type tale, I was not captured by the intrigue of whether Miss P would get to stay with Delysia, as it seemed rather a foregone conclusion, as was the notion that she would somehow eventually find a man.
A lukewarm response from me. I did enjoy the illustrations though Wink
