Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

Early mc and feeling a bit overwhelmed

Yesterday, my local hospital confirmed that in their opinion I've had a very early miscarriage. DP and I have only been trying for two months and got three very, very faint positive BFPS.

Had a scan yesterday by an incredibly dismissive ward sister which confirmed there was no 'matter' left in my womb.

I was a bit upset but resigned to the fact that I wasn't pregnant.

Come into work this morning to be told one of my colleagues who wasn't even trying to get pregnant is three months gone. I'm really trying hard to be pleased for her and truly I'm happy for her and I know I've only had an early miscarriage but I'm so upset. I know this is bad timing but all the same I hate myself for feeling so envious.

The gynae was so rushed yesterday I didn't get a chance to ask him why it might have happened but I guess it's just one of those things. I wonder whether i should've come into work today at all really.

No you probably should have stayed at home today, you need to recover emotionally and physically. Is there any chance you can take some time off? Even though your pregnancy was short, it was still real and you have lost something that you wanted. You need time to grieve, and time for your hormones to get back to normal as hormones can make you feel fine one minutes, and devastated the next.

And it's very upsetting to hear of someone elses's pregnancy - even if you are happy for them, it still will make you upset for yourself.

It's impossible to say why you miscarried. Many healthy women miscarriage and go on to have successful pregnancies, so please try not to worry.

Don't really know what to say but didn't want to let this go without a responce.

So for you and DP.

I'm sorry you were treated so dismissively. An early MC is still a MC and it still hurts that you were pregnant and then lost the baby. I had an very early MC the month before I got pg with my current pregnancy (now 19 weeks) and it hurt a lot at the time, not physically but emotionally. Take as long as you need to recover and if you need a day at home then be kind to yourself and take it.

I'm so sorry. I've had 2 like this. You do need to take some time out to recover emotionally, and it does hurt less with time.

BTW I mentioned about my current pregnancy only to illustrate that many, many people have early MC and go on to have successful pregnancies. It is very common, sadly. When you tell people it is surprising the number of people who have suffered a MC

Many thanks for your kind comments. I sort of knew it wasn't going too well when I started bleeding last week but I thought it might be ok. Ho hum...

Yes, well I wasn't overly impressed with my local gynae unit. What made it worse was that the EPU waiting room was full of pregnant women and children because the maternity room was being redecorated!

I'm sure it will be ok. Just need time to digest what's happened I suppose.
