So sorry for such a long post but im sending myself crazy!

So basically I started my normal 28 day cycle period on the 18th of October..it lasted my usual 5 days.i then started bleeding with pain in left side on cd11-13 so oct 29th-31st pink/bright blood. Went to the doctors on the 30th and negative pg test negative infection test! Was still in pain so went back to the docs on the 2nd of November and had bloods taken and swabs.i heard nothing back so assumed everything was okay I then started bleeding again cd19-20 which was the 5th and 6th of november. Dtd with oh on the 7th and started bleeding slightly and was painful during it, went to the doctors on the 8th and got rushed to hospital as I was pregnant with hcg level 273 and suspected ectopic. They did an internal and nothing was there, took my bloods and hcg level dropped to 9 :( so I had lost the baby!
Well since then the doctors have told me to do a hpt a few days after and it was positive! Didn't get my hopes up so decided to do one every other day! Still faint but still positive! So Friday I went to the docs and he is as confused as I am as my hcg levels should be 0-5 by now plus I've started feeling really tired and quite sick but not being sick :( so more blood tests and get the results in the morning! Oh went to Tesco last night and bought own brand blue tests and straight away 2 thin blue lines appeared, him being him thought the tests were dodgy so he peed on one and no line at all! I am sending myself nuts! Does anyone know what it could be?! There's no chance a baby could still be there right?

Emma sorry for what you are going through. If you are still having positive tests you really need to have another scan. Do you have an Early Pregnancy Unit at your local hospital? It is possible that you have an ectopic pregnancy. They can be very difficult to diagnose but you need to persevere so that, if it is an ectopic pregnancy, you can receive the necessary treatment/medical help as soon as possible.

I rang The epu and said i was still getting positives and was still in a bit of pain and the lovely lady on the phones response was "look you've clearly had a miscarriage it's nothing to do with us anymore, sorry" so pretty much just been fobbed off! I never got the results Monday, I got them yesterday and all the receptionist at the go said was "normal no further action required" I asked her weather gag level was back to normal and she told me that the doctor is going to ring me next week!!! I'm so annoyed and confused :(

Emma that's really frustrating and unhelpful, to say the least very insensitive. Flowers

If you don't feel you're getting anywhere but are still getting positive tests accompanied by pain and/or bleeding, can I suggest popping on to the Ectopic Pregnancy Trust website and contacting them for some advice.

It may well be a miscarriage and I'm so sorry for that, but it also is dangerous if you have an undiagnosed ectopic pregnancy so please don't rule out pushing for more answers/scans if your symptoms don't improve/your tests stay positive.

If your serum level dropped to 9 then you shouldn’t be getting positive urine tests 2 weeks later. This needs to be investigated and your EPU need a kick up the bum.

To have continuing positive tests means there must be some pregnancy tissue somewhere kicking out hormone. This can happen after a miscarriage/ectopic and usually resolves itself but it needs serum tests to ensure that. Worst case scenario is an ectopic that is grumbling away which would require treatment.

Bear in mind with a normal pregnancy nothing would be seen on scan until blood levels >1500 so it’s very common with ectopic/miscarriage not to see anything - it’s usually called pregnancy of unknown location and an EPU would follow you up until hcg levels declare themselves one way or another.
Hope you get some answers next week.

Good luck with your results today. I hope the situation resolves soon. Further from what Topbiscuit said, my hcg levels were over 30 000 when my ectopic was discovered and it was still difficult for them to locate the mass in my tube on an ultrasound so they really do need to investigate properly to rule everything out if your tests are still positive.
