About to miscarry, do i go to work?

Hi, sorry long post.

i started bleeding brown blood on 23 june and then red blood with clots on 1 july. Had a scan on 1 July and they said baby was only about 6 weeks (i was 8 weeks), the sac was at the bottom of my uterus and it was an odd shape, so highly unlikely to be viable. I've got my head around this (obv v upset!), but just want it to be over now, so i can try again. I'm 41, so time isn't on my side. I have to go back for another scan on Thursday (7th) for them to confirm it.

I'm due to start back at work tomorrow after a year of maternity leave, timing!!

I don't know what to do, i have period pains and bleeding but nothing awful.

I know i haven't actually miscarried yet as I've had no clots since the scan, just heavy bleeding and no really bad cramps like i had with the clots on friday. (the clots came out before the scan, so weren't baby coming out as it was still on scan).

I'm worried about going to work and then starting the miscarriage at work, but then also don't want to stay at home to mope.

It makes it a million times worse that I'm returning from maternity leave!

Does anyone know when i might start to miscarry properly. Could it really be weeks?!
Should i go to work? Help!!

No do not go to work. Firstly it's emotionally draining and secondly mc can be very painful. Moping at home is tricky to avoid but the alternative is worse. Box sets and long walks are your friend!

No, don't go to work. I had a MMC 7 weeks ago, and when I started bleeding, it was like a waterfall. Get plenty of tena lady style thick pads and have painkillers to hand.
So sorry. I'll be 41 next month, and it was my first pregnancy. I know how you feel about time not being on your side.

Please don't go to work. I understand you wanting to be distracted (I had 6 losses so I really do get it) a gentle walk will help, but stay near home. Once it starts, the worst is usually over pretty quickly. Don't be short with pain relief if you think you need it, the cramps can be pretty horrid. A hot water bottle helps too.

Don't go to work. You don't know how heavily and painful it will be. Even if it is not too bad your head will be all over the shop.

Tell them you have d&v which automatically gives you an exclusion period.

Thanks all. I did go to work. Right decision or not, i still can't decide!
I was pretty dizzy and felt shocking but the day was kind of ok (aside from the runs to the loo for my jippy tummy !) . I've told them and said if it starts, i will just get up and go. They were really nice about it. I'll see how tomorrow goes.

I've had 4 days of heavy bleeding now so surely it's got to start soon?!

I went to work during both of my miscarriages. I don't think I could have mopped at home and it was a distraction.

helbelle, are you going to try again? I really want to because of my age, but not sure when to start again. Obviously i need to get this over with, but trying to think positively in a difficult time !

Hi, yes we're 7 weeks on,and I've had a periond, so we're going for it. Just hope it happens for us again x

Hi OP, so sorry you're going through this. Just to give a different perspective, my 7 week miscarriage (pg ended about 6 weeks) was just like a heavy period for 9 days and I worked through it. So there isn't always an 'event'. I did need ibuprofen but that was all.
