D&c after miscarriage

Hi, I'm desperately looking for some advice. I had a missed miscarriage in Jan, I thought I was 12 weeks pregnant and at my first scan it revealed that I'd had a blighted ovum but hadn't had any bleeding. I opted to go for the D&C but three weeks after this tested positive on pregnancy test. A further scan showed that I had 'product' still left and so I was diagnosed misoprostol. This gave me horrendous pains and I started to bleed. I went back for a further scan and it showed that the product was still there though it had decreased in size and so gave me a misoprostol a second time. I have returned to hospital today and a scan has revealed that there is still a small amount left in there approx 2cm. They are keen to send me for another d&c to remove to prevent any infection an because this has now gone on for 6 weeks. I desperately wanted to avoid another d&c as I want to start trying for another baby. I'm so confused about what to do, I'm booked in for the d&c on Thursday, I'm just hoping it's the right thing to do. Has this happened to anyone else?

Hi Hgiggles31....my goodness, I'm so sorry to hear what a horrible time you are having :( How are you feeling today? From what you have said, I must say I am inclined to agree with the doctors that you should have the 2nd D&C :( I'm sure its the last thing you want to go through, especially after having already been through it once...but I think you need an end to this horrible experience, to allow you to grieve and try to move on. It will give you a fresh start and enable you to get your cycles back on track and begin starting to try for another baby :( Please let me know how you get on....what an awful thing for you to go through. Big hugs x

Thank you so much for your message. I read this in the morning before the d&c and although I was really upset it really reassured me about going through with it. The surgeon said I've just been really unlucky with everything that's happened. I'm just looking forward to getting back to normal now and you're right it will hopefully set me right now to get my cycle back to normal. Fingers crossed. Thanks again sidiaro x

Hi, I'm sorry to hear what you've gone through, what an ordeal with having to take the misoprostol twice and not working. Glad to hear the second D&C is booked, I can understand why you wouldn't want it done again but it sounds like it would be the best option to remove that last bit that isn't passing on its own.

I had a D&C a week ago for mmc and want to start trying soon too so I can understand how you feel.

I wish you all the best and hope you recover and able to try very soon. Take care x
