'Patient Choice' re recurrent miscarriage

I'm on the recurrent miscarriage thread but I hope people don't mind if I cast my net a bit wider?

Have had 3 mcs in the last year so whilst in hospital for last erpc the Drs encouraged me to take up an appointment with their consultant.

We did this and have had the final results back as normal. I naively assumed that at this point I would be referred on to a specialist clinic but no, apparently that's my right to a referral over with.

My counsellor was a little hmm about this as she felt I wasn't given a choice about where to go, and I was given an appointment whilst in a very vulnerable position (just after a general whilst having pain they couldn't control).

My question is - do I have the right to go elsewhere? For preference it would be a specialist clinic at a larger hospital. We don't have insurance so private is out.

Has anyone been in a similar position?

Thank you !

Yes, you can ask. Your local PALS can support. They can be reticent because of cost... But you pay national insurance and tax so don't even worry about it. Sounds selfish but I've never cost the nhs much till now, been a good citizen, so now I am quite pushy about getting what I am entitled to under their guidelines.

Squizita, I'm so sorry for not coming back to you and thanking you for your answer.

I've asked PALS and had no response, but an email to Lesley Regan's secretary shows we qualify to see her on the NHS! I'm smiling for the first time in ages. Unfortunately the GP is still saying I've used up my right to a referral but its a start...
