Question about heartbeat

Does anyone know if a baby/foetus can continue to grow once the heartbeat has stopped? Thanks. Just trying to prepare myself...

Hi Woody. Didn't want to leave your post unanswered. I assume that if you say the heartbeat has stopped that means there was one previously. I am no medical expert but I would say that is probably conclusive. I had a miscarriage in May where there was a very slow heartbeat at 9 weeks and baby measured 6 weeks. A week later the heartbeat had stopped and there had been no growth. I am so sorry that you are going through this. I know how horrible it is. Thinking of you xxx

Thanks Ellie. Basically I am only 6/7 weeks pregnant.i had a scan on Friday at the EPU and there was a heartbeat. yesterday I ended up in hospital and they could see that the baby had grown since Friday but they couldn't see a heartbeat but thought this might be due to the scanner not being as sensitive etc. So I was just wondering if the fact that the baby had continued to grow was a positive sign if that makes sense? I am going back for a scan at the EPU on Wednesday.

Well the fact that they can see growth in such a short space of time has to be a positive. Why did you end up in hospital Good luck with the wait til Wednesday, will keep my fingers crossed for you. The waiting is the worst part I think - I have a scan booked tomorrow as I think I am having another miscarriage after a bleed on the weekend.

I had to go in as I had a bleed. Cervix was still closed so hope that's another good sign. I hope your scan goes well tomorrow ellie

I didn't realise how uncertain things could be and the waiting is horrible.

Thanks woody
So the scan showed me as being 6+4 and there is a heartbeat. Can't quite believe it as was so convinced we were losing another one! Obviously will still be fretting like a mad thing but enjoying the good news for today. Hope you are feeling ok and not too stressed? Will be thinking of you tomorrow xx

That's brilliant - I am so happy for you. Do you mind me asking how much blood there has been? xx

Great news Ellie, that's a good start. I'll be on here hoping for good news from you both.
My 2nd scan next week as est. only 4wks at previous one. Can't quite tally that with conception dates so think growth must have stopped.
How long 12 weeks can be.

Thanks Woody. At the risk of being TMI I had a few gushes of red blood on Friday over a couple of hours with some cramping. A fair bit when I went to the loo and then enough to soak a pad. After that I had brown blood/mucus every time I wiped til Sunday when it stopped. The sonographer said there was no obvious reason for it and that it could be an implantation bleed. Seems a bit late at 6 weeks but I guess it could be.
BangOff sorry you are going through this too. I agree 12 weeks can feel like a lifetime. God knows how many grey hairs I have sprouted over the last couple of days!!
Best of luck to you both

Hi Woody how did you get on today. Have been thinking of you

Hi Ellie - unfortunately it was bad news for me. The baby and sac had gone so I must have miscarried over the last few days - basically since Sunday. Feeling very very upset at the moment.

I hope that everything goes well for you.

Thank you for thinking of me x

So sorry woody. Nothing anyone can say will make it better at the moment, just be kind to yourself and maybe have a Wine or two...

I had the same thing happen to me this week so can understand how you feel and there is nothing worse Sad

I'm so sorry to hear that. It really is an awful thing to go through. Please be kind to yourself. Rest and cry as much as you need to. I hope you have someone looking after you.

Hi Woody hope you're OK. I had a miscarriage yesterday too. Painless, but more blood and a sac :( - I have a scan on Monday but it was pretty conclusive. I was devastated last night but am feeling a bit more positive today. I hope you are feeling a bit better too. x
