I need to have a little rant about my miscarriage experience so I hope you dont mind me getting it all off my chest on here!

Had a dating scan at 6 weeks, saw my babys heartbeat and was the most amazing experience ever!
At 9+4 I woke up and found I was bleeding a bit. Went straight to A+E who after 2 hours of waiting sent me to the Gynae department who eventually did and internal examination and said its all fine and I wasn't having a m/c. They booked me in for a scan the next day as I felt that it wasnt right.

Next day (on the Wednesday) they confirmed my worst nightmare, that babies heart had stopped at 8.5 weeks. I was devastated and was sent home to decide wether have d&c or natural m/c and I called them that afternoon and opted for a d&c. I was then told that before a d&c I would have to come back in for bloods to be taken and I would have to wait until Friday for that! I went back in on the Friday and also asked for a second scan while I was there to confirm it as the sonographer had not asked for a second opinion while diagnosing a m/m/c.

After double checking I was told I could not have a d&c until the following Friday even though I begged for it to be on the Monday as I couldnt wait that long.

Monday rolled around and I was having waved of intense cramping all day which were becoming more and more frequent. By 11pm the pain was constant and unbearable. I felt a sudden woosh of fluid and ran to the toilet expecting to see a load of blood. My 'waters' had broken and in my pants was the fetus. I was taken straight to a&e and I was starting to bleed heavily. When I arrived they took me straight through to majors. It was decided that as I was in so much pain and losing so much blood I was to be kept in over night for a scan and emergency d&c in the morning. after spending 3 hours telling me they were going to find me a bed I gave up hope that they would kick someone out at 3am and was told that I would have to sepend the night in a&e with the drunks. At 11 am after not sleeping at all they finally managed to get me a scan so I was taken by wheelchair to Gynae and dumped in the waiting room with the normal people who had come in for appointments (I was in a hospital gown and on a drip) where I had to was over an hour for someone to see me. They were reluctant to even scan me and eventually told me that although I had passed the baby there was an aweful lot of clottage but they cancelled the d&c I already had booked and sent me home with diclophenac and told I'd have to go through it naturally.
Nearly 2 weeks on I am still passing clots and bleeding. Im so upset with the way I have been treated. I just want this to be over but I cant get on with my life while im still bleeding etc.

Sorry about the long post I just needed to get it off my chest!! xxx

You poor thing, it sounds awful in so many ways.
If you are still bleeding you should go back to A&E or is there an Early Pregnancy Unit near you?

I am so sorry you had such an awful experience. I had a similar experience AFTER the d&c (needed a second). I now have invested in private health insurance which does cover cases such as this one. Having had 3 D&C's on it, it really is worth it!

That is just horrible, I'm so sorry for your experience.

Is there a different hospital / different PCT you can go to, where they might have different waiting times; or as farfalla says, an EPAU where you might get better treatment?

To still be passing clots after so long must be very hard - I can understand why you feel you can't get on with things.

Take care x

Firstly I'm very sorry that you are having to go through this.

I had a miscarriage in February. Initially I bled very heavily for about a week, and had a couple of days of very bad pain where I passed several large clots. The bleeding then ceased, I went back to hospital where they scanned me and I was told I had removed most of the tissue. They did state that there was one clot that still had to come away and that I was not to worry about this.

Anyway, about 2 weeks later I started to bleed very heavily again at work. I was soaking pads for another 2-3 days, and whilst there were no clots, there were times when I honestly thought I couldn't bleed anymore. It was awful.

The result of this is that I ended up being ill for a week after - probably due to the huge blood loss. I had zero energy and was told to rest at home by my doctor. I felt absolutely exhausted by the whole experience.

Obviously this is not offering you any real comfort, but from my experience a lot of women have messy and complicated miscarriages and there is scant support/information out there for those of us who do. I was basically given a leaflet from my hospital and told to go home and get on with it.

Thinking of you, look after yourself. x
