Menopause

Day 18 of bleeding

I had the weirdest period that was not normal in the type and severity of pain or bleeding. The pain was much less and the bleeding not as heavy and mixed with clear mucous. It dwindled down to brown stringy discharge with the odd bit of bright red blood when I wiped. Two days ago I started with more red blood and today it's definitely full on period with period legs and feeling rough.
I'm 43, GPs keep saying I'm too young for my wappy periods to be due to menopause but they have definitely changed over the past year or more to shorter cycles, irregular, shorter or longer bleeding times.
Has anyone had such a long period as this and with such varied bleeding?
GP has sent off a swab as thought I might have BV due to the brown discharge but it seems to be one long period.

I’m suffering similarly - currently on day 27 of my period (first time it’s been this long). Have had various bleeding/ spotting from red, to dark pink and brown and various flows but mostly light. My cycles have shortened too over the past couple of years. I had a transvaginal scan in December which showed ‘simple’ cysts on each ovary and multiple fibroids - they said everything looked closer together which suggests endometriosis and that it’s all leading up to the menopause. I’m now waiting to see a gynaecologist for next steps. I’m 46 so not that much older than you. If you feel worried I would ask for a scan.

Thank you for your reply and I'm sorry you're suffering too. I had a scan about 18 months ago and all fine. I have a long history of endometriosis but have never had a period like this before. The GP who did some bloods for hormone levels did mention fibroids. My mum had those and had a hysterectomy at 47.

I’m 47 and am currently experiencing my first long period after 18 months of erratic cycles, short, long with fairly light flow but lasting a little bit longer. This started quite light but then a week of flooding and since then it has continued. Some days it’s really light, some days a bit heavier but no flooding, sometimes old blood and sometimes new. Waiting for an appt at the docs but spoke to the practice nurse who reassured me that it was very common in peri but to monitor it in case i became anaemic. I had a scan 2 years ago and know i’ve got fibroids but i still can’t help but worry. Finding this site has helped me alot as it’s a safe place to talk to other women in the same boat xx

After 30 years of endometriosis I feel reassured that the end is in sight. I'm ready to embrace the menopause but I'm not keen on this not knowing when I'm going to be bleeding or how long for.

I'm back to my usual name now. Day 24 and finally clear mucous. I've no idea what to expect with regards to my next period. I'm unimpressed with over 3 weeks of period pain though. The period legs, back and hips were bad this time round.
