Constant spotting/which period pants

I'm fed up of continual spotting. My cycles have been getting further apart 45 days then 38 days etc but this month I've been heavy spotting on and off every couple of days.

I'm not having a really bad time yet. I'm 49 and have had hot flushes for 2 years but they have eased off a bit in the last few months. My mum and sister both hit actual menopause at 45.

So back to my point. Has anyone tried period pants to deal with this? I'm looking for the easiest way to get through.

Any advice very gratefully received.

Aren't period pants waterproof pants? The ones I've seen are meant to be worn with a pad inside (as you would with normal pants) but they have a non-rustle waterproof lining up the front and round the back of the pants. They aren't meant to be worn without sanpro.

Why not just use a decent panty liner each day?

Period pants do not need sanpro. I'm currently using liners but I don't like them and they are awful for the environment.

Crikey- that's odd @wombinside. I bought some (the ones devised by Annabel Croft and Carol Smiley- brand name Diary Doll) and the instructions def said use with san pro. It would be an almighty mess without. Blood would be everywhere.

I was looking at Modibodi and then I saw how many different types there were. I'm just miserable from the constant bleeding to be honest.

Most period pants are designed for use alone. Of course they can be worn as a backup with a pad or tampon if you prefer. I do a mix of both depending on what stage of my period I’m at or what I’m doing on a particular day.

Anyway op I think they’d be perfect for the situation you describe. My period tends to take forever to finally stop and I have maybe four days of spotting and the pants are perfect. I didn’t want to pay Modibodi prices so bought some cheap imitations from Aliexpress. They are amazing.

Sizing is hard to judge but I have XXXL and they fit perfectly and I’m a 14. For reference Dd has M and her normal underwear is age 9-10.

Def worth a try for the money.

I have Modibodi and Cheeky Wipes period pants - bought for exactly same reason as you OP. Modibodi more expensive but much better quality and very reliable, even with heavy flow. Sizing on small side whereas Cheeky Wipes very opposite and generous sizing.

@wombinside Well, sorry to bang on about this but have just checked the label in mine which says 'Must always be worn with your usual protection. Use pads without wings.'
These have no cotton gusset, they are lined from front to back with a waterproof material.

In all honesty how can they be worn with no pad or back up for tampons? They would need changing every 3-4 hours at least and for 4-5 days? Mine cost around £10 so that would be a lot of money!

If you want to avoid plastic, use www.natracare.com/products/pads/ or see your dr for drugs like a progestogen or HRT to control the bleeding.

well, they look good but I'd not feel 'safe' using just pants and there is the issue of changing them throughout the day. I can swear by Natracare panty liners-breathable and no plastic. If the spotting is really getting you down, the mini pill is a recognised treatment.

If I use mine without pads then I need three pairs a day. And I’ve only leaked once when I sat up in bed first thing in the morning without thinking. Honestly they work fine but obviously will depend on personal preference and period flow.

For what the op describes they’d be perfect.

I have a few from various brands, but I like the Modibodi seam free the best, they are very discreet (no VPL) and dry a lot quicker than others I have.

Cheeky Wipes do some good, cheaper models but I would only wear them under a line skirts otherwise they are very obvious

I have a (yucky) question. I have recently bought some period pants in order to do my bit for the environment but how often do you change them?? I.e. if you're out and about and wearing trousers for instance, can you wear them for an entire day?? What about when you go for a wee, do they feel yucky cold and wet when you pull them back up (assuming you haven't changed them)? I usually wear tampons on heavy days but pads in lighter days and would usually change it every time I go to the loo. Just really after some practical advice as to how to use them for the best? Tia!

@Fifilafrog it really depends on how heavy your period is. The first couple of days, I use a tampon for the first half of the days then just the underwear, on lighter days I wear the underwear on its own and change when I get home.

It doesn't feel wet at all, the blood is absorbed instantly and it just feels like dry fabric, much more pleasant than pads!
