Menopause

Post hysterectomy menopause symptoms at 45?

I had a subtotal hysterectomy 18 months ago - uterus, cervix and fallopian tubes removed, but ovaries kept. Op was done as I had huge fibroids and the bleeding was making me so ill. Gynae did say that the op increased my chances of hitting the menopause early.

In the last 4 weeks or so I've definitely been getting hormonal symptoms which I'm thinking are menopause related... hot flushes, sore boobs, headaches. Is it worth seeing the GP? Or is she just going to say that I'm almost 46 and just to get on with it?

Sorry - meant total hysterectomy with conservation of ovaries. Cervix gone too :-)

If you want to try HRT, see your GP. If not, there isn't a lot they can offer as HRT is the recommended 1st line treatment especially as you are young. If your periods stop completely before 51 that's counted as early and they do suggest HRT to protect your heart and bones.

I had the same as you - total hysterectomy but ovaries left.

I was told they should keep working and I wouldn’t need HRT for a few more years (I’m 46).

They packed up 4 months later and now I’m on HRT 🙄 it has definitely helped with the hot flushes.

Think usually starts within 5 years of the operation. Osteoporosis is horrid, so consider HRT to age 51.
