Bleeding and bleeding!

Looks like this is going to be my second two-week bleed in as many months. No pain but feeling a bit peaky tbh, and my skin doesn't love being bloody all the time. Rather than winding down over time it's still a mid-period flow (not heavy exactly but not showing any signs of getting lighter) and very pink.

I've taken some tranexamic acid but as this isn't exactly heavy bleeding I'm not entirely sure it's appropriate.

Anyone have any words of wisdom? I loathe the idea of the coil (I've had problems in the past with hormonal contraceptives and had and hated a coil about 20yrs ago) so that's not going to happen. I'm abroad so can't see my gp just yet but thinking about going when I get home.

Talk to your GP about Mirena. A plastic t shaped intrauterine device with progesterone hormone wrapped round the top of the T. It’s different than the old copper coils of 20 years ago (tho these still suit many women!)
It is the gold standard choice for heavy bleeds and makes periods lighter/nonexistent in 90% + women

I totally feel your pain. 10 days in to the heaviest period I've had in years and no sign on stopping. Will visit GP when it's finished but like you don't like the idea of the coil. I've spoken to other women and it sounds quite common but I'm still going to get it checked out. Before this I was 2 months without a period which was much better TBH.

So, sorry no real advice and I hope your (and mine) bleeding stops soon.

I too feel your pain, had that happen many times over the past few years. I would sometimes get two periods in a row which would go on for 3 weeks on occasions. I'm more into the spotting territory now and have only had about 5 completely bleed free days since the beginning of April. Don't think you need to go to GP 'quick smart'.

so, sorry no real advice either - just you're not alone and this will end!

Newbiecat lol, yes thanks but as above this is both hormonal and a coil.

newlabelwriter oh no, I agree re no period vs endless period. Tranexamic acid seems to have helped (though I seem to still be bleeding this morning, will know more later in the day).

ParisUSM no, as in op I can't see the gp anyway as I'm thousands of miles away. I only had my smear like two weeks ago and all was well then. The nurse asked me how it was going meno-wise and I told her everything and she just nodded and nodded so it seems like this isn't cause for alarm. If it was heavier maybe, but it's just steady.

Funny you mention the two periods. I did have a three-day period - just like the old days! - and thought wow, that was great, maybe I'm going back to that now? But no, urgh, about three days after it ended I got my new normal heavy 7-10 day period as well. It's so confusing. I then had to reassess, was that just mid-cycle spotting? It's so confusing.

Good luck to you, fellow travellers of the endless period landscape. Grin

Saw the GP about this very thing earlier this week - she thought it was pretty much par for the course, though did order a couple of urine samples between periods to make sure the blood isn't anything else. I don't have any other kinds of symptoms, though, so I guess I just have to put up with this until it stops.

StableGenius yes, apparently anything goes at this stage! No periods, endless periods, ninja periods that come at you without warning at any time of the month etc. It's a free for all.

Urghhh. I actually thought I would mourn the end of my periods and in reality I just want them to fuck off now! Honestly, going in to week 4 of the most annoying period, luckily not quite so heavy as it was.

@newlabelwriter lol, a year ago I would get my period and feel a bit sad, like soon this will all be over and my months will lose this regular rhythm, but like you I feel like it can all just fuck off. Back in the halcyon days of my three-day periods I asked my friend (who is a few years older than me) if she would mourn the end of her periods and she told me she'd just had a two-week period during her two week holiday and no, thanks, she would not miss hers.

Mine went away after 15 days but blimey, week 4 for you! Mine was like a period in slow motion, not especially heavy but it just went on and on. I got to that time when it was light enough to expect nothing more than spotting the next day, and it went on for another 10 days. Around day 10, when I thought quite reasonably that it must almost be over, I wore Thinx and they were completely overwhelmed and I had to find a loo and sort it out.

Yes, definitely contemplating a massive end-of-periods party for when they finally stop giving me this grief.

Me too, along with sacrificial burning of the enormous tampons and pads which have become necessary over the past 4 years. Just a shame we have to wait a year to know it's over.

I have had really heavy, long periods for the past year and the last cycle was a medium flow one that lasted for 4 days.

As someone who has had periods since she was 13 every 23 days, that lasted 8-9 days I definitely won't be missing the buggers. In fact I have now decided to run down my Tampax stash and only buy them on a need to basis.

The way that I look at it is, I don't need them anymore as I am way done having DC. Now they are just an inconvenience.
