Does anyone know of any m&b(massage/yoga/fitness) groups in the area?

Hey neighbour!
What kind of massage etc are you after? I know of a dedicated yoga studio that offers mum/baby yoga; a women-only gym with a beauty/massage clinic that has post-natal exercise with creche onsite, and some good places to look for more informal drop-in baby massage. Let me know what you're after and I'll do my best to help--been here for yonks!

Hiya - would love to find out more about the drop-in classes. Is the mum/baby yoga at yoga home? Have you been to their classes?

Yes, post-natal yoga (bring the baby) is at yogahome, I did go when DS was tiny, and liked it, but he wasn't in the mood to cooperate (all the other babies napped beautifully) and I decided I would prefer a class just for me. I did a beginner's course in yoga and it was excellent. For drop-in massage, I am pretty sure there is a class at the community centre on Defoe Road (pop in and look at noticeboard). Blue Legume cafe and the cafe at Clissold Park also have adverts about baby massage from time to time. You can also find adverts sometimes in N16 magazine or the freesheet N London parents. Good luck, how old's the baby?

That's OK glad to help. My DS is 4 in April and I am 9 wks pg with number 2. I joined Sunstone 3 wks ago but have been too ill (bronchitis) to attend even once!

Hi outtolunch
I went to a really good mother and baby massage course run by SureStart which was free. It was in the healing tent on the Nightingale estate near Hackney downs.. I think I have a number somewhere if you are interested

I took DS to his dancing class at the community centre on Defoe Road today & there was an advert for drop-in baby massage, £7 a session. So free sounds very good indeed! I'm sure I didn't pay that much for the massage session I went to with DS.

I took DS to baby massage when he was 10 weeks old (he is 2.10 now). It was run by the Health Visitor and was free. I saw it advertised at the Dr's / baby clinic. I think I still have all the papers we were given. I could email them to you if you wanted?

Hi Outtolunch
Thanks for the message -Found the number - it is 020 8489 7777 - that is the healing tent where the course took place. The guy who organizes it is called Pete. The course lasted six sessions - weds 10.30am -12 ( I was only able to go to three). If you are after something more drop in they do baby massage at the bf support group I go to at St Saviour's Priory in Queensbridge road.
My little girl is 5 months and thankfully sound asleep.
ps - to all on this thread - I am interested in meeting mums in Stokey if anyone is up for meeting in clissold park one afternoon?

Would love to (although DS is much older). He can be persuaded to visit the cafe in the park if he has been in the playground for ages first. Or, we do go to the one o' clock club occasionally. I don't really like it in therebit cliqueybut it's fine if you're meeting people.

janx - thanks for the number! I went to that group when my ds was very young but haven't been back as it isn't really convenient to get to. How do you get there from stoke newington?
kid - your info would be much appreciated - please do cat me!
I too would be up for meeting!

My DH is off work all week and we have tonnes of decorating to do. We are currently attempting to do 3 rooms at once, not a good idea but too late now as we have started!
My DS is 2.10, DD 6 is and is off school this week.

DecafArabica · 13/02/2005 22:27

I can do Weds 3.15. Let's hope the weather is good enough for the park.

Shall we meet outside the cafe and go for a walk around first if nice - if not dive into have a coffee. Just so we know each other - my name is Jan - I have long brown/reddy hair - usually tied up to disguise the fact I desperatley need a hair cut and so that my baby can't grab it! I wear glasses and have a mamas and Papas blue checked buggy.
Look forward to meeting you both - sorry you can't make it kid - good luck with decorating
