Something new for Manchester mums

Hi,
I am new to mumsnet, and as a mum I am always looking for new like-minded people to meet up with and find things to do. I also manage the 6th floor at Kendals (House of Fraser) in Manchester and am looking at the possibility of starting a new Mum's club. This would involve mums meeting in the rooftop restaurant, free tea & coffee, talks from cosmetic departments with free samples etc and anything else I can think of. We would also be able to entertain the little ones, as the Hamleys toy department staff are willing to spend their time doing art/craft and playing with the toys. Depending on the interest, this is something I would like to grow and hopefully provide benefits for mum's club members. I just initially need to know if you mums out there think this is a good idea. I would also welcome your ideas on what we could do. I have contacts throughout Manchester from theatres/restaurants etc which may be able to get involved, so please let me have your feedback.
Thanks
Dawn

I used to work at Kendals!

Can't remember whats up there now though. Mirrors? cafe? furniture?

have you an age range in mind? would you have to book?(thinking of spectacular days when its heaving or during holidays, promos etc)
If you are entertaining the LOs would you be responsible for injuries caused by, for example, spilled hot drinks?

Too many questions for me to say yes or no at mo! Its a good idea at base but there are nearer cafes that i can meet mums for coffee at where i won't get perfume sprayed on my latte

It sounds great. Something for the older children 6+ would be good. Mine would be happy with those small remote control helicopters/cars etc. Any expensive/novelty toy would keep them happy for an hour or so.

When do you think it might start?

am a Manchester Mum but have always been a bit unsure about meet-ups. Now am tempted! Would have no LOs with me so perhaps a bit too old? (Or could take the LOs off you so you could enjoy your latte in peace!) Will watch out and if the dates fit with my work, will come along....

Yes I would be interested. I work part time but would bring DD with me if it was on day off, and as I work in Manchester I would be keen to meet/help other mums if it was a day I was in town if it covered lunch hour

I'm in Liverpool but would be interested to come over to Manchester for this during school holidays or weekends. The 6th floor restaurant at Kendals does great kids meals IMHO - as you get a small hot meal and drink and snacks for a reasonable price.

Hi

I would love to do something like this. Don't think department stores appreciate how difficult it is for mums to spend time looking for make up etc while trying to distract DCs. Surely we must be a key target market? I know I never get chance to try anything new.

Count me in!

Sounds great - mine are 7+ though! Can I pretend they're younger and join in with sampling the cosmetics?
