Low-carb diets

What's the difference between the blood sugar diet and ketogenic?

Please can someone summarise? I'm thinking about doing the blood sugar diet for the 8 weeks to see how it goes. I've heard of the ketogenic as a treatment for epilepsy and as DH has epilepsy he's keen to try it (although his seizures are controlled by drugs). Just wondering if it's essentially the same thing before I buy any books?

The blood sugar diet is a very low calorie diet; the ketogenic diet is a very low carb diet.

Whilst the BSD encourages a lower carb approach, is isn't really low carb in the same way.

Thank you BIWI - I didn't think anyone was going to reply. That's nice and clear.

From what I understand Keto is not necessarily calorie restricted, though some do that. It converts your body into a fat burning machine by limiting carbs to

You can still benefit from a keto diet but when it’s done for epilepsy it’s done extremely precisely

Keto isn't calory restricted but it will remove ALLsugar and carbs.
It's an extremely hard diet to follow and should only be done under the advice of a nutritionist as it is so restrictive.
The people i know who have really followed that diet have done so for very specific reasons, eg to help with chemo in cancer treatment. It not fun at all.

Blood sugar diet is about managing your blood sugar levels so will still have some carbs in your diet.
Tbh as far as I am concerned, it's closer to the way we should all be eating.
And yes you will be loosing weight. Not so much because the number of calories is lower but because your blood sugar will never go high enough that the body will want to store sugar into fat.
