Low-carb bootcamp

Why have I not lost any weight on 2nd week of Atkins? :-(

Hi, I find that whatever diet I try, I usually loose about 2lb on the 1st week, then it's 1lb off, stay the same, 1 lb on etc. I'm trying Atkins for the 1st time. I'm on stage 1. 20g carbs a day. The 1st week, I lost 2 lb. The second week I stayed the same despite doing all the same things, and even had a bit more exercise last week. (Walking)
I am not overweight, but I'm on the higher end of healthy, whereas I'd like to be on the lower side. I am small boned, so I can look quite chubby despite a healthy BMI.
Being on Atkins has improved my health and wellbeing hugely! I feel far more energetic and positive. I just don't know why I can't loose weight. I am in ketosis. I have the sticks to test. I do have PCOS, so not sure if that is affecting it. It is meant to be the best diet for PCOS. I'd really appreciate any advice. Thank you. :-)

You still need to exercise to burn the fat

Well at the end of the day you need to be eating less calories than your body needs to lose weight. For someone who is quite overweight it's pretty easy to just eat Atkins type foods, not worry about it too muchand lose weight.
As you describe yourself as being already in a healthy BMI range you are going to have to be a bit stricter, as its so easy to just have one more handful of nuts or bit of cheese and then you quickly start not having any calorie deficit at all. I'd try logging everything you eat in MyFitnessPal and see how many calories you eat in an average day.
Then maybe try to only eat 1250 or so calories per day. This is what I do and I use my fitbit to make sure I'm burning off around 2000 calories per day, then I am losing weight at a reliable 1-2lbs a week.

And great job on sticking to it for 2 weeks so far! Thats the hardest bit over with, and like you say it is meant to be very good for PCOS so do keep going if you can!

Thank you both, that's probably it. I don't get enough exercise. I work in a school and spend a great deal of time sitting. I used to be far more active until I started working in a school. i'm also studying, which means there isn't much time anymore. I think an exercise video is in order.

Atkins and low carb is NOT about calories in and calories out .

Whilst eating low carb, it is not vital to exercise.
Why not have a look at the bootcamp thread that is currently running. There is loads of advice and support. We are a friendly bunch Smile

I am not overweight, but I'm on the higher end of healthy

That is why

Concentrate on nutrition first and toning exercise.

I understand how Atkins works but surely it will work faster if your body needs energy, it's not getting it from carbs so burns fat. So if you exercise = more energy required = more fat burnt / weight lost.

Atkins and low carb is NOT about calories in and calories out .

Look, I'm a Huge believer in LCHF and have been low carbing successfully for several months, but of course if you eat 3000 calories a day of low carb food you won't lose weight! You still need a calorie deficit at the end of the day.

I’m with Gaillondon on this, I have been doing Low carb Bootcamp for the past 6 weeks but have also been putting my calories into MFP so I get a calorie deficit. I’ve lost nearly 2 stone but that has only been from having the calorie deficit. If i was to eat 3000 calories of cheese, bacon etc I will put on weight. I am a huge fan of LCHF though - health wise I feel heaps better and am never hungry with the calorie deficit.
