Low-carb bootcamp

Energy surge in the mornings - is this normal?

Hoping a bootcamper is up at this time ...

I've been trying to have a low carb diet for the last week or so, and for the past 3 nights, have woken up really early (or the middle of the night) - ie 4.30am one night, then 3 am the next night , then a lie in this morning at 5.15am.

When I wake up, I feel full of beans and sort of restless and no way can go back to sleep. Going to bed at around 10pm.

I feel okay though - all things considered - and am not particularly hungry etc - just wondered if this is a side effect of low carbing?

Reading with interest-- I have been low carbing for about 10 days now and have been feeling strangely great. I tend to wake up early anyway, I've suffered terribly from insomnia in the past but now seem to be sleeping better. Perhaps it's just your body adjusting?

Hi - I've basically stopped eating bread, white flour products, sugar (as far as possible).

Haven't done completely low carb though, as on day 3, got the most horrendous headache and felt grim and thought that life is too short to feel that bad in aid of weight loss/trying to be healthy, so had a small amount of potatoes with salad that lunch time and headache disappeared.

It is a revelation for me to not feel hungry all the time and Not be craving crisps/chocolate/cakes/scones......I might actually be able to keep at it for longer than a week, which is when I usually cave in to temptation - pathetic I know.. I only would like to lose around a stone, to improve my general health and my painful knees.

Good to know you're both sleeping better - hopefully my poor sleeping was because of stress at work, not the new way of eating..

I was just writing on the week 5 boot camp thread about this. I'm only coming to the end of my week one and for the past 3 days have woken at 4.30/5. I have been really knackered by 9 so also going to bed earlier. Googled it and it seems to be a thing for low carbers when the first go into ketosis so I guess it's that.
I'm also totally wired throughout the day!
Problem is I can't really do anything at 5 in the morning otherwise I'll wake everyone else up so have taken to just lying on the sofa and listening to podcasts in the dark with earphones at least til my littlest wakes at 6.30.

Yes, after the initial carb flu on day 2/3 I find that I have a much greater level of energy and I also sleep better and find it easier to get up in the morning. I think it's a great side effect :)
