Low-carb bootcamp

Can bootcamp/low carb work with 5:2?

I've been doing 5:2 for several months now. I don't need to lose any weight but another couple of pounds would be good.
I've been reading about low carbing and it makes a lot of sense to me but I'm not sure of a few things.

  1. would I have to do the bootcamp to start low carbing in order to make my body start using fat for fuel even though I'm already at a healthy weight.


  1. would I still be able to do 5:2 while doing bootcamp or would i have to wait until after bootcamp to start again?


  1. How long is the actual bootcamp? from what I can gather it's 2 weeks of being very strict then gradually upping carbs until you find out what you can tolerate without gaining, is this right?

forgot to say I exercise 5 days a week , running and circuit training type things. will I still be able to do this in the early days of low carbing?

Low carbing and 5:2 should work very well together, because low carbing helps to curb your appetite.

But you don't have to do Bootcamp to low carb! You can just start by cutting out the obvious carbs - especially if you haven't got any more weight to lose.

You don't need the strictness of Bootcamp, but you will need to switch your body to fat burning rather than carb burning; cutting out rice/pasta, potatoes, sugar, most fruit - and focussing on eating more fat/protein, should be enough for you. Bootcamp Light might be sufficient for you.

You're more than welcome to join us on Bootcamp if you think it will help you though - always lots of help and support there.

Bootcamp lasts for 10 weeks altogether, including the first two, strict weeks. We're just about to start week 5, so most people will be doing Bootcamp Light anyway.

Thanks BIWI I've cut right back on carbs this week, upped my fat and I've been amazed at how satisfied I feel after eating with no cravings for junk (it's still early days though).
I'm going on holiday in a few weeks so I don't think I could commit to bootcamp now but I'm very interested in giving it a try when I come back.

You might find exercise hard in the first couple of weeks, until your body adapts.

so my body will start to burn fat instead of carbs for energy even without being made to go into ketosis as long as I cut back on carbs and up fat intake?

If you are consistent enough with your low carbing, yes it should. But see how you go with it. You may find that you need a strict period initially.

Is carb flu the transition between burning carbs for energy and burning fat?

tired I have mainly been eating salads with olive oil dressing, lots of eggs, mayonnaise, butter, cheese cream, nuts etc. I have been trying to follow the bootcamp lite rules from the main bootcamp thread.
