Lone parents

A question for the single working mum/dad

Is it worth working full time? Ive seen a job in the paper today, that sounds really good, and would really like to go for, but the hours are full time, Mon-Fri 9:30-5:30. Im currently working 12:30-5:30 and find it hard enough. I have to pay rent and dd goes nursery too, which I am getting help with from WTC. But if I am earning more, Id have to pay more of my rent, and would I get more or less CTC/WTC? I want to be better off money wise, but I dont wanna take a full time job if Im gonna regret it after. Any single parents working full time, and do you cope with it? xxx

Tammybear, AFAIK, you can put in the figures into the WFTC site and it will tell you what you are entitled to get - that may help you a bit. Rent is slightly more problematic, but if you ring the housing dept and explain the situation, they may be able to tell you how much more you would be expected to pay. I'm sure that many people are in your position but don't want to change the status quo unless they know exactly where they will stand financially.

I was like that with just going back to work part time. The new deal lone parents advisors told me Id be better off working, but so far that doesnt seem to be the case. I just seem to be the same as I was a SAHM.
