"Single" moments x2!!

On Friday I went to a wedding reception with my ds. I know the bride from ds' school. Her ds and mine are in the same year but I don't really know her outside of school. The verbal invite was very casual and she mentioned there'd be a couple of other Mum's from school there. I arrived with my ds and didn't know a single person except the bride, who was obviously quite busy!! Thankfully ds was with me otherwise I'd have been sat on my own! I did attempt to make conversation with a couple of people but I'm not even remotely capable of speaking English with someone I don't know! We stayed for a torturous 2 hours then made our excuses and left. I'm glad we made the effort to go but I felt so single!!

2nd "single" moment was yesterday. There was a local music day being held just round the corner from where I live. I'd tried to get a few friends to come but because the weather was so bad everyone had pulled out. I already had a ticket and didn't want to waste my fiver (!) so I took ds. We had a lovely day but I felt like "Billy-No-Mates". I was desperate for someone to arrive that I could have an adult conversation with!

During the week I don't even slightly mind being single. I am always so busy with ds, work, school etc that I'm glad to have the evenings on my own but on the weekends I really struggle. Many of my friends don't have children and the ones with children have husbands and do "family" things. I'd feel like I was intruding if I invited us along!

Anyway, I just wanted a moan really!

On a more positive note: The bride looked gorgeous on Friday and the music was brill yesterday so not all bad!!

i think it can get very irritating not being invited when there are no other single people - so your friends think you're not part of a couple and somehow don't invite you unless their bloke is out

moan over

you know probably no one even noticed you were on your own...

I know, although, one man kept looking over. Not sure if it was because my ds was getting a bit over excited or he thought I was some saddo turning up on my own!!

If I'd known how casual it was going to be I'd have asked one of my girl friends to come with me!

Snowwonder - Is your invite for +1? Could you ask the groom if you could bring a friend? I've been invited to a good friend's wedding in September with ds and only know the bride. She has forced me to come to the hen-night to meet some other people but I find this kind of thing such an effort! I've got so used to staying home and not making any effort that the thought of going out is a bit scary!!

i went on holiday on my own and met my fiance.... it's true you never know what is round the corner, especially when you're not looking. it was totally unexpected.

I have a friend who used to go on singles holidays every year (not to find love or anything!). She also used to go to the theatre and concerts on her own too. I'm just not brave enough!

Oh I hate it too! The way you see some gorgeous bloke somewhere, while you're pushing a buggy etc. and they just assume you have a DP or something..especially when one of your kids is 3 weeks old!!!

I just don't go anywhere any more because it's too depressing...
