So, very long story short. My daughter lost contact with her dad when she was 3. In the next few weeks she turns 10. She has always known who her father is, and knows that I tried to keep the contact between them up but to no avail on his part.
On Saturday we were at a family gathering in our local pub, which happens to be near where he lives. There was an organised trip on the day, and his name was on the list (pinned up in the pub) that he was going. So, no chance of seeing him. Made my daughter instantly at ease.
But...just as we were about to leave...in he walks. There was an awkward stand off, but then my daughter said "hello dad". He looked at her, said nothing, and headed out of the door he had just walked through.
So my question is, where do we go from here. I've spoken to my daughter, and she would like some sort of relationship with him but feels that (by his reaction), he doesn't want the same. She had recently had an operation so her arm was in full cast, she was very bruised looking, so there was an opportunity to strike a conversation with her just by noticing the cast! But no, he said nothing. Part of me wants to say to her he's a complete bastard, waste of space etc etc, but I've never bad mouthed him so don't want to start now. Her hormones are all over so she's very emotional as it is. Help!
