ExH not paying child maintenance

My ExH has taken redundancy & has informed me that until he gets a new job he won't be able to pay child maintenance.
I've spoken to CSA about this and they said that they can't chase him for money if he's not working (I understand this) HOWEVER, he will be getting a very tasty redundancy package. I feel massively aggrieved that he will get a lump sum but will have no obligation to pay me child maintenance. Has anybody been in a similar situation? He should find another job v quickly but I will probably be 2 months short of payments, do the CSA take this into account??
