How do you make friends?

I work full time, so don't get to make friends with parents on the school run, didn't grow up in this town and my job also means I work in a different place every day (supply teacher). Basically, don't really have any friends apart from my family who live about 20 miles away!

I'm thinking of asking for either my sister, brother or mum to come and babysit once a week (can't really afford a babysitter), so I can join some meet up groups and at least start to socialise again, I feel like I've become a hermit!

I'd love to meet up and make friends with people with/without kids or just go out once a week to socialise/meet new people. Has anyone else been in a similar position?

Hi Icando

Do you have anyone at work? You spend a lot of time at work so that might be worth a try. I've heard good things about the meet up groups too. I think though that if you are looking for a deeper friendship, it's worth doing something you're interested in, say like an evening class, where you'd meet like minded people.

There are meet ups on MN too, normally local to your town/city.

You could always organise your own on here.:)
