London

If you had 48 hours in London by yourself what would you do?

I live near to London but rarely get time to get up there by myself and whenever I am there with the kids and DH we tend to do the same sort of things. In June I'm heading up there for a 2 day break by myself (I'm not the spa and country hotel type) and want to get the most out of it. Any ideas of different things to do and nice places to eat? I'm quite happy with my own company (I'm going away alone for a reason - I need some time to do my own thing!) and don't mind eating out alone so anything goes really!

I'd normally say the Hunterian, but it's closed.
John Soanes museum
Afternoon tea upstairs in the Wellcome Collection
I'd happily spend several hours in Daunt books in Marylebone or the Foyles on Charing Cross Road.

Spend one of the days at least just pottering around camden market at your own leisure with no one else wanting you to hurry up.

I'd find a gig or club to go to... Or theatre?

Theatre?
I’d go to the V&A, Borough Market and see a show.

Walk the Southbank from Lambeth or Westminster Bridge to Tower Bridge.

Walk through The City of London.....a fascinating and much over looked area.

I'm really boring.

I'd go shopping, then go to the Savoy for cocktails, then probably have a good nights sleep in a much cheaper hotel 😂

I’ve wanted to go to Dennis Severs House since I heard a radio programme about it. I haven’t yet, but this sort of thing is right up my street and you definitely need the luxury of no weans hanging off your limbs or yapping partners for it!

Where abouts are you staying and what do you like to do. I like to get out of central London for a while and go to Golders Hill Park in Golders Green, it's lovely there and they have a few animals, after that you can go onto Hampstead Heath where there are plenty of places to eat. A river trip is relaxing too, if you go into Greenwich there is a lovely park and sights, they have a market at the weekend. If you enjoy views over London you can book an hour free visit at the Sky Tower in the City, for eating Carluccios always treat me very well, they have branches all over London, the rest of the time I get fresh bakes and sit in a park. Are you interested in art galleries, museums, theatre and shopping.

Postman's park is nice for a little break from the crowds near Saint Pauls.

The Betjeman pub at Saint Pancras is quite nice - I could happily while away an hour or two with a book on my own in there.

Monet at the National or Picasso at Tate Modern, or both. Shopping in Marylebone. Last-minute tickets to Hamilton. Kew Gardens or one of the parks, the roses will be lovely in June. Breakfast at Le Pain Quotidien. Portobello Road. Lunch or dinner at a good sushi restaurant, and maybe The Wolseley.

I'd get up really early and go for a run. I did a HM recently and it was fab, but would have loved to have done a bit more by the river so I would run along the Southbank, maybe do a loop depending on where you are staying. Go for a nice brunch then back to the hotel for a shower and mid morning nap...

Then to an art gallery (not particularly into art but its not something DH or the DC would like), cocktails somewhere and dinner somewhere.

I’m so doing a weekend in London by myself this year (well, when I get round to it). I’m going to go to the Diana fashion exhibition, a matinee show, a glass of wine in a nice bar then an early meal before crashing in my hotel with yummy snacks. All planned out! Watching with interest for dinner-for-one recommendations.

I'm hoping to get a last minute ticket to a show (apparently more likely to get one at the box office since I'm on my own), would love to go up to Hampstead Heath and have a wander. I'm hopefully staying at County Hall (Premier Inn) on Southbank so can wander around there in the evening. They have a nice food market on the days I am there and the Underbelly Festival is on too. Maybe a walking tour? Great ideas thanks, keep them coming. I like to keep busy so I can get a lot done in 2 days.

Try the TodayTix app for show and theatre tickets, OP. I love a weekend alone. Museums/art galleries/markets at MY pace, exactly what I want to eat and drink when I want it, good sleeps in a hotel with no stress if you happen to wake up at odd times and want a cuppa/read/to watch tv for a bit.

Ooooh, exciting! I would definitely do a show, and go to Opium in Chinatown from cocktails and posh dim sum. I like a walk so would do the south bank and walk down to Tate Britain and get the boat back up to Tate modern. Keep promising myself I'll go into St Paul's so would probably do that too. Dinner? Hmmmm, somewhere in soho - perhaps Hoppers or one of the posh places on Charlotte Street. Swift is also great for cocktails. After a morning in bed with the papers I would have Brunch at The Breakfast Club in Soho. If only!!

St Paul's, Science Museum, Covent Garden, Camden Market and a couple of good restaurants would do for me
