I'm dying here ladies. I'm so sick of shopping! (I know, how can it be! ) Is there anything fun/educational to do with my dd (10m) which will be a bit different and distract both of us for a couple hours. I used to take my nieces and nephews to the zoo, but the closest one is Bristol (right?)and the drive and expense of gas and the bridge makes it just not that reasonable to do once a week...
What am I missing?
I thought about the museum myself, but not sure if she'll look at paintings for long...though she's starting to notice and point now to pictures on ours walls so maybe...
Is there anything else?

Hi

I run "Jolly Babies" and "Music with Mummy" music classes for ages 0-3 and offer a Free Taster Session if you would like to give it a try. Classes are fun and interactive, encourage learning and are a great way to send time together whist making new friends. There is lots of singing with puppets and other props, fun with percussion instruments, lots of movement ( to help wear them out!) and bubbles and parachute too.

The museum isn't just pictures, they have loads of fantastic interactive pieces, some specifically tailored for children. Recently they had an exhibition on Charlie and Lola. Well, on the author of the books actually, but my dd didn't get that . They also have a room set aside for colouring, glueing etc etc (on the ground floor next to the big stairs). Go and give it a try, it's fab!

Then there's Techniquest, though I would advise going on a Toddler Day to avoid being trampled by the older children. A 10month old may not get much out of it, but she will enjoy it a lot as she gets older.

Then there are classes like JollyLiz mentioned. I can personally recommend the Music With Mummy classes - it's great fun.

Also local Mother and Toddler groups, a great way to pass an hour. There must be one local to you, usually in a church hall or community centre.

Finally there's Cafe Junior and Bambeans. Also Parc, but it's not that much fun for non-walkers.

When the weather gets better, it will be much easier to keep baby occupied as you will be able to walk to the park, or go to Roath Lake to feed the ducks.

Hope you have fun with your dd

These are great ideas ladies. Thank you so much.
There is a parent and child group at the community centre; I found it a little uncomfortable to be honest and when we went Moo was only 5m and it was not a ton of fun. But perhaps now that she's more mobile it'll be better.
I had heard abt parent and child showings of films but had not come across any. I obviously wasn't putting the right key words into google.
We're going to try the art museum and Techniquest (tho I might want to go with dh the first time so he doesn't feel left out -he's apparently wanted to go for ages but didn't know we could take super lo's )

After some more searching on google I also found a birds of prey center in Barry which might be nice. Have any of you gone there?

I've been there. It's ok, but I'd say for older kids. There's some animals / birds to look at.

They have a falconry display going on quite often.

i used to walk round Roath Park a lot. Start at the top of the lake, then right down the feed the fish in the conservatory. Gets you out and about, at least. And maybe a couple of rides on the swings and slides.
