Hi,

I had a baby girl 7 weeks ago and wanted to know of places I could go to or activities to do with her in the local area during the day that are either free or doesnt cost that much, and also places I could go to meet fellow mums

Thanks in advance!

Hello Sabs - whereabouts are you?

If you're in E17 there's the Waltham Forest Toy Library that has daily sessions morning and afternoon. But with a baby that young you might be interested in joining an NCT group You don't have to pay to join if you don't want to I don't think, just ask your local NCT organizer to put you in touch with local mothers..

Thanks for responding onebatmother I'm off Lea-bridge Road. Will check out the toy library.

I thought you had to pay for NCT but will check that out as well..

I think I was bare-faced and said I couldn't afford to..

I've just remembered that the toy library has special sessions for under-ones so that would be useful.

There's also Peterhouse up by the forest, used to be on a Friday. Have you had a look on the map in the Waltham Forest Local section? Hold on, I'll see if it's there...

Main thing is to be brazen about starting conversations with other mothers that you like the look of - that's how I made lots of friends, in cafes and at the baby clinic etc..

I've just discovered that there's a 'Sing and Rhyme' session twice weekly at Walthamstow Library for 0-3's. 10.30-11am Wed and Fri. I'm going to check it out next week!

Not at all Sabs I've just put a more recent pic on there.

We'll have to try to meet up some time. It'd be nice to talk to someone with a baby the same age. Have you been to any of the NM meetups (I saw you're on there too)? I think I'll try to go to the next 'coffee-ish' one.

Hi lupa I went to the one last week at Tumble in the Jungle. I tried to go to the one before that in After's in Hoe Street, but there was a mix-up with the time

Have you been to any NM meetups? It would be great to meet up . I've just come back from a new parents session at the children's centre from Queens Road. It was a 25 min walk for me so not too bad. Let me know if you're interested and I can send you the link.

My nearest CC is Sybourne.

We are starting up our own sessions on a Monday morning at the Walthamstow Toy Library called Sneaky Biscuit - it's basically run by the mums and dads on the committee and we are trying to make it fun for the parents too by offering real coffee, cake and biscuits as part of the entry price. Also we are having a different 'grown up' music theme each week - jazz, classical, chill out, world etc. The idea being that us parents can ease ourselves into the week gently while the children play. All the good things about the Toy Library sessions will still apply like different craft activities, snack time and singing. We're running it for 6 weeks from next Monday 14th June to help raise more funds for the Toy Library.

Hope to see you there Sarah x

A new coffee club with a difference??Sneaky Biscuit'.

While your children play with our diverse range of toys and activities, you

grab some nearly new clothing bargains.

£2.00 per family includes coffee/tea, biscuits and healthy snacks for the

Hi mummymed. I'm moving to Walthamstow TOMORROW (!) with DH and 7 month old DS. Is your sneaky biscuit session still up and running? It sounds lovely and we could definitely use a few classes to get us involved in the local community.

There is a lovely baby yoga class on Friday mornings at 1100 in the church next door to the Allum Medical Centre on Fairlop Road, E11. It costs £3 which is donated to charity and is run by a lovely yoga teacher.

hettiew, hope the move went well! The toy library has a different timetable over the summer but there are quite a few things on - see www.walthamstowtoylibrary.org/index.html.

A lot of things aren't on during the summer but many of the church baby groups are still running. I've put some on the listings pages here.

Hello all! Move was exhausting but we're finally here, and have a house that's half way towards being in a liveable state. Would LOVE to know of any baby activities or meet-ups going on. I feel like its my first day at a new school!
