Honest Advice Moving to Alconbury

Hi! We are first time buyers thinking of putting an offer in on a house in Alconbury Village. We currently live near Ongar and love it but cannot afford to move close by AT ALL. South East prices are the pits!

What is Alconbury Village like? Friendly? Any antisocial behaviour?

We are a mixed race family, with two small children (5 and 6m). Both professional (I work Flexi hours). I will be homeschooling but obviously would like to meet and socialise with other kids & families locally.

Would the property price be affected by the new development in Alconbury Weald?

We have previously visited and liked:
Transport links
Quietness of area
Potential to meet young families
Park and green spaces

Didn’t like:
A very nasty looking dog on the road that didn’t seem to be trained.
It’s far away from our current area which we like a lot so to move is a big gamble for us

Many thanks for your advice and opinions on Alconbury in advance!

Hi @Theworldisfullofgs, we went to Alconbury Weald this week and have booked again tomorrow to check details of the build and get process started. It looks lovely and it seems to be a great place to raise a family. I would like to know from someone who lives there how does it feel, what do/ don't you like about living there. It felt so empty, so we couldn't have the feel about how are the people who live there. We don't know anyone in the area and it scares me a bit not having friends around. We have two boys 7 and 4, my husband only has to commute twice a month. It may a different feel on a weekend but on a weekday we only saw people on the Bistro, which we enjoyed it. Thanks in advance

I live in the Alconburys not the weald. There is a new bistro and from what I can gather it seems nice and is developing.
There is stuff going on and the weald and you can join in with things in the villages around, cubs and guides are connected. People are generally welcoming.
I know a lot about Alconbury school but less about Ermine Street. I think the Head is leaving.
There is a magazine called The Parish Pump which will have some info about what is going on. It includes Alconbury Weald even though its run by someone who lives in Alconbury.
I moved here 20 years ago and it took me a while to get used to it!
