Moving to Prestwick area, any help re desirable areas appreciated

We're relocating to Prestwick area due to husband taking a work transfer. I've never been before and it is tough for us to visit as we live in Stornoway currently.

Were looking on Rightmove at Troon, Alloway area, but I'd love to hear opinions on places futher afield. Primary schools are essential, and a thriving community (not necessarily large) would be ideal. We've been living here in relative isolation for 2 years, therefore keen to give our two daughters a base close to many activities and friends now. Ill be visiting once to view houses when ours has an offer, we're negotiating with a purchaser currently so this may happen very quickly.
