Me and my husband are looking to move to south Manchester with our 2 young children. We want to live near our parents in Macclesfield but also close enough to the city.

We are priced out of a lot of south Manchester and are currently looking at colshaw farm, could anyone tell me what it's like to live there ?

Macclesfield itself has great train links to Manchester and more reasonable house prices than South Manchester.

Colshaw Farm is in Wilmslow. It's a council estate area, but the most upmarket council estate you're likely to find. I'd imagine you'd get a house for a bargain price compared to prices in the local area generally, but it's a bit of a way from both Wilmslow and Handforth train stations (if you're planning on commuting in to Manchester).

Thanks flowerpott. Just wanting to get a vibe for what it's like as l don't want my kids to live somewhere unsafe or where people aren't friendly especially as houses are very close together!

I wouldn't say it's unsafe, I know the area well (or at least I used to - before moving to London). I still have parents and grandparents in wilmslow. There is a mix of people and a little bit of antisocial behaviour (depending on where you are) but there is also a strong community feel, lots of support for one another amongst neighbours etc.

One thing to look out for would be which catchment area you'd be in, if you have primary aged kids. Secondary, they would be in the catchment for Wilmslow High School, which is a great school, but quality does vary at Primary level. Maybe also consider Dean Row area (very close, a little more expensive) or Handforth?

It’s not somewhere that I would want to live to be honest....anti-social behaviour and the houses are really on top of each other. There’s two parts to the estate, if you can find a house off the Handforth Rd entrance then I would consider it. That side seems to be a lot quieter.

Ive lived on Colshaw since 1988 its a former Manchester overspill Estate. The houses are well built and twice the size of the Jones homes across the road for half the price . Like ALL neighbourhoods there is good and bad but on the whole its a good place to live. Most people on here are happy to help a neighbour out. And there are generations of families who live here years
