Just to let local Mumsnetters know that this outstanding Bristol primary with a really special, whole-child approach and wonderful teaching staff currently has places that you should snap up if you are looking for a special primary for your kids. Biased opinion? Yes absolutely...but also true!

Hello, could you tell me why you are such a fan of Hotwells? We are thinking of sending our daughter there. What would you say the down sides are for you? Thank you

My kids went there and loved it. It is a small school (1 form entry) so everyone knows each other. I remember when my son was in Reception and we were out somewhere and an older child (probably Year 5 or 6) said hello to him. I was really impressed as because at my school the older kids picked on the little kids. Hotwells is not like that, it is very caring and nurturing. Their results are great, but they dont put loads of pressure on the children to achieve, just encourage. The only negative I can think is that they dont have masses of outside space (although this is true of most inner city schools). They are always working on improving and developing the outside spaces. The buildings are also old (victorian) so this can have it's limitations (particularly if kids have physical SEN needs), but I think that adds to its character and history. It is one of the only schools in Bristol where the kids dont wear uniform. You may think that good or bad?!

Thanks so much. We like it very much but might see if we can go back for one more visit before submitting the application.
