Just wondering if anyone can give me any advice/views on which primary schools are good/not so inMonmouth? We're moving to the area from the South East and we don't know anyone there yet so would really appreciate any views. Also any views on pre-schools/ Montessori etc?

Hi hazza
DH know Monmouth better than me and he says there's a prep school called The Grange just off the Dixton Roundabout in Monmouth. For 5-11yo. Hope that helps.

Our DS went to Trellech Primary School which is 8 miles from Monmouth which is a lovely school.

Thanks for this WyeValleyGirl.
Private schools are not an option for us but will definitely look at Trellech.

I think the head teacher is Mr Green, Hazza. Hopefully the same person as when DS was there.

When we go past the school (as its near our GP surgery, we've been noticing a few modernisations which is a good sign! I do hope you find a school to suit your DC!

Hiya, I'm originally from Dartford and now leave near Trellech, my DD started school there in September and loved it, it's a really popular school with a good reputation. The headmistress is called Mrs Christofi .

Thank you so much. We live in Brentwood and are desperately trying to find a rental now in the catchments of either Trellech or Osbaston. We went to see 4 schools last week and really like Trellech but as husband will be travelling to Brum for work (so conscious of being the right side of town for him) and more likelihood of rentals in town rather than rural Trellech (?) thinking Osbaston. Seen a rental in the Rockfield estate but that's Overmonnow school catchment. I guess we don't want to take the chance of getting our boy into either of the schools we like. We are wanting to rent for a year or two and then buy. Love the countryside and views around Trellech. Everyone is so friendly. Cricket I though the house hunting was going to be the fun bit. I guess the reduced tax allowances and requirement to register with landlord Wales maybe putting off would-be landlords as there just isn't much about.

Not sure about osbaston school as no personal experience but it is supposed to be very good. We live just outside monmouth and my son attends Cross Ash school which has been fantastic. They started off at overmonnow but I wasn't impressed. Just didn't give me that feeling!
It's worth doing a few visits around the area to get a good idea. I've been here just over 2 years now and am enjoying it. Try to find somewhere with a good community feel. We looked at a house in redbrook but decided against it, with hindsight it would have been a good choice but hey ho!

Thank you for your message Junglie, I have now done visits and yes you're absolutely right that when you go to see them you know where your child will be best suited. We now have secured a property on Hereford rd so that's in Osbaston catchment. So fingers crossed. Next job, to secure a childminder!

That's great news. I'm sure you will settle in quickly. There's so much to do here. Fantastic cinema, great local shops, music festival in the summer, loads of walks, loads of craft stuff and baby groups. Enjoy! theres a good fbook page with over 5000 people on which is handy to get local recommendations for trades and stuff like that.

Sounds great. What is the name of the fb page btw? Am also trying to get onto the monmouth mummy's fb page as was recommended that but I've sent a friend request ages ago but the admin person hasn't approved me yet so still waiting on that one.
