Newport’s Riverfront Theatre are an official partner venue for this year’s National Panto Day and they will be celebrating on Friday 12 December with a whole host of panto-related activities, including streaming a live performance of their Dick Whittington pantomime to local hospitals.

The live performance of its critically acclaimed pantomime will be streamed on the children’s ward in the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport on Friday and on the children’s ward in Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny on Saturday. The children’s wards look after children from very young to adolescent age, and provide treatment and care for them if they are admitted with medical problems, or, if they require surgery.

Councillor Mark Whitcutt, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture, comments...

"Christmas is a special time of year, particularlyfor the young and it's important to make sure that children who are in hospital have the chance to enjoy the magic of it. This is a wonderful idea and I'm very happy that The Riverfront, its staff and performers are part of this and making it possible."

As well as the live streaming there will be lots going on at the theatre as part of the Panto Day celebrations. The school children attending the pantomime will be attending in fancy dress as their favourite panto character. An official Riverfront Panto trailer will be released and shared across The Riverfront’s social media channels. The theatre staff, including the cast and crew of the pantomime, will also be busy tweeting and sharing all things panto throughout the day.

The Riverfront’s Dick Whittington pantomime runs until Sunday 4 January and tickets cost £5.50-£18. For more information and to book tickets contact 01633 656757 or visit //www.newport.gov.uk/theriverfront
