Hi
I know this topic has been DONE TO DEATH but, in spite of all the posts, there is actually not that much that is current and local to East London. I am looking for recommendations for loft conversion companies. So far I have had quotes from Trimloft and Landmark Lofts. Both seemed ok, but I have not exactly found gushing reports on either. It's just so much money, don't want to make a big mistake. Also, planning to have it done just after birth of second child so don't want the stress of dealing with cowboys.
Thanks everyone.

Hiya,

We've just done ours over last winter. But my husband supervised it himself while working full time for very similar reasons (we had just had a second baby). I don't have any suggestions at the moment, but I will keep an eye out in my travels. Just started on building up this site with business and trade info, but reviews would really help you out, I would think. Have you tried something like ratedpeople.com?

Thanks. I have but you have to ask for a quote first I think, then 3 tradesmen contact you. There doesn't seem to be any process to search for reviews. I have tried Mumsnet, baby centre, nappy valley. No one company really jumping out as reliable (the same few get mentioned but seem to get as many bad as good reviews)! It's a stress as it's so much money. Thanks for the reply. Should I be posting this on the main Mumsnet site also (not quite sure how it works). Thanks!

You could definitely start a thread on the main site. It really is a stressful process. We got proposals from some of the bigger companies that were astronomical. Some had recommendations from former customers printed in the proposals! I knocked on a few doors in the months before when I saw a house/conversion that I liked the look of and chatted with them. The old-fashioned approach might be the best thing. I wish you the best of luck!

Are you on Facebook, btw? Because there is a group called Redbridge Chums and Mums that connects people with things they need. I can't vouch for them, but you can canvas some more opinions from those folks. You have to ask to join because it's a closed group.
