Oi - come over here and tell me - what's the best thing about living in Kirklees?

Hello - I've just taken over as the editor for our lovely (if somewhat sparsely populated) local site! So I wondered if you wouldn't mind sharing with me your thoughts on what's great about living here. Here's some of mine:

Beautiful rugged landscapes
Friendly people
Lots of nearby cities

Please add your thoughts!

I love living in Huddersfield, but I don't really know why!

Location location location!!!
Close to both Leeds and Manchester , not many places you can say that about .

I love being so central to so many places. Leeds, Manchester, York etc if you want big city shopping. 20 minutes in any direction and we can be in rolling countryside, hills and moors etc.

I also love being 5 minutes drive from Ikea!

Maybe it's because I didn't move here until my late 20's but I really don't "get" the Dixons thing.

We do need a GAP and a Starbucks though - although I suppose the Ikea ones aren't too far.

Ooh Hoppinggreen I bring you glad tidings - there is a brand new Starbucks where the Little Chef used to be on Leeds Road, Mirfield - not exactly town centre I know, but it's a start ...

I moved to Kirklees nearly 14 years ago and don't see myself leaving. Although I cheated a bit ad both dc were born in Barnsley as that is our nearest hospital. What is not to like? Lovely countryside, brilliant road links, several big cities nearby (that Leeds, Sheffield, Manchester), ok house prices, good schools (round our end, and who didn't love Educating Yorkshire?), plenty going on, and Hell my tap water gets bottled and sold in supermarkets.

There used to be a Gap in the Kirkgate Centre. For about 2 mins.

We're going to the streetbikes thing at Princess Mary playing fields tomorrow, its supposed to be good weather all day.

There's a starbucks and a gap up at Jcn 27 in Birstall - starbucks is on the cinema side attached to Krispy Kreme and Gap is on the ikea side near Toys R Us.

Hoppinggreen, I moved here in my 20's and love Dixons you obviously just haven't enough to acquire a taste for it. Try harder!! The infused flavours they do now are amazing.

Congratulations on your new role.

The people here have been very kind and friendly to me. Love the countryside and dog walking right from the door. Plenty to do with children too.

Oh and the hospital was fab and so much nicer than giving birth at Leicester - tho technically Halifax is Calderdale.

Dixons Milk Ices were started by a relative of mine !
I like the green spaces, they are mostly on Public transport routes.
The local Greenway is a muggers paradise, though.
I like shopping in Mirfield, the Oxfam shop is my preferred boutique.
The library services are fab, with social activities for adults/oldies as well as storytimes for children.
All in all, I think we get good value for our taxes.
