Hi, we are about to move to Oxford (husband has job at JR) and we're a bit horrified by house prices in the city. A village might be better and we are thinking of those out to the East/North East to be on good route in to JR and also good for travel back 'up north'. I am looking at state primaries and wondered if anyone had views on those in Islip, Bletchingdon and Beckley. Thanks!!

We live in the one of villages just north east of Oxford. These villages are full of young families, many of whom work at the JR.

I dont know about Bletchingdon school, but both Beckley and Islip have great reputations, though quite different feels. My little one is due to start at Islip next term, and I could not be happier. I suggest you visit the schools to get a better idea of what would suit your wee one.

Good luck with the move.

Thank you Likescake. We have looked at Islip: it seems lovely. What would you say was the main difference between the Islip school and the one in Beckley? We've visited Bletchingdon as we have a friend there but the commute to the JR is slightly trickier. All villages in that area certainly seem lovely places to live.

My kids are going to Edward Feild in Kidlington - it's OFSTED outstanding and they have places in the reception year. It's very easy to get to from Islip or surrounding areas.

Thank you whomovedmychocolate (great name BTW!) I've just checked their web site and it looks lovely. Lots to think about. I know I'm thinking a long way ahead, but do you know anything about secondaries in the area?

The secondary next door is up and coming - it's only Satisfactory at the minute but they have replaced the entire management team and it seems on the up. TBH I don't know whether my kids will go there as I might attempt to find private schooling for secondary (LOTS of choices in Oxford for that). Or see how the school is doing nearer the time.
