Gym near/in Saffron Walden

I have been to the little gym in Clavering but wasn't impressed - I was twenty years older than the other users and didn't appreciate the only TV being turned to MTV, and I've been a member at Harpers at the Lord Butler leisure centre. That was OK (and cheap) but thought there must be something better out there.
I don't need classes or a pool, just treadmills, cross-trainers, fixed weight machines.
Any recommendations?

there's a great cross-training session that runs at arkesden village hall every week, starts at 10 on weds and Friday mornings but I think at other times as well. you can just turn up, its very good but v unintimidating, there's music but no tv and it costs a fiver
