Calling Muscat Mums!

We are moving to Muscat in August and I'm having a think about getting organised. Our stuff is being shipped from Romania and in theory, should be in Muscat by the time we arrive, but we probably won't get it into the house and unpacked for a few days. Is there a company in Muscat that hires out baby equipment? I'd like to rent a travel cot, steraliser etc for a few days. I know someone does it in Dubai and am hoping there is something similar in Oman.

Many thanks

We lived there 10 years ago, fantastic place and brilliant for families. IIWY, I'd contact the AWC or AWG (can't remember), it's the American Women's group or club. they are very helpful. If the steriliser is essential, I'd consider taking it in my luggage. good luck.

Not quite everywhere slim, OP, have you considered Miltons? when dd was born we didn't have a mircrowave for the steriliser thing my sister brought out for us. Until then we'd just been using Miltons which we got from Muscat Pharmacy. I understand things have moved on a long way since then.

Thanks Kreecher, I'll contact the AWG and see if anyone knows. I'm going to send my big steriliser with the stuff that's being shipped as I have a travel microwave one I can use when we are in the UK and Belgium in the summer. It's just when we arrive in Muscat and are in a hotel for a few days I'm now sure what to do as we won't have a microwave in the room. I hadn't thought about doing the whole cold water thing but I will now.

Oh the joy of moving countries with an 8 week old!

You'll be fine. As I said, it is a fabulous country which has moved on a long way since I birthed my dd there. The health care, particularly in SQUH is second to none. Out of nosiness interest, where are you going to live?

I am really looking forward to it. It's just the whole moving thing that I'm weary of - I have packed up houses and moved 3 times in the past 3 years. We were in Dubai before here and visited Oman a couple of times so from what we've seen, I'm sure we are going to be happy there. For sure it's going to be far better than Romania!

I 'think' we are living in Al Ilam - I'm pretty sure it's near to the Crowne Plaza, well at least on that side of town.

Lived there up until a couple of years ago. There is actually a group called Muscat Mums. they have a website I think. I am sure if you contact them they will be able to help and if not have meet ups etc weekly so great way to meet new mummys.

Hi Kekke, Have you arrived in Muscat yet? It might be worth you looking / joining "Muscat Mums" who are a social group of mums with pre-school kids. Their webpage is www.muscatmums.110mb.com. They also hire out baby gear, if you need stuff before your shipment arrives.
