I'm so sorry. It sounds terrible. If he can't breathe he needs specialist care. I hope the doctor can do something to help him.

Dr been, doesn't think he needs to go to hospital and just see what ct scan shows up . Dad very short of breath, on antibiotics and has an inhaler. Wait and see I suppose????

Is the inhaler enough? It sounds as though he needs oxygen.

My dad died in not dissimilar circumstances. It's really awful. It was very important to my dad that he died at home rather than in hospital. (A hospice was never suggested.) We were lucky that that's what happened. What about your dad? Do you think he'd take a turn for the worse just by going to hospital? That's what I thought would happen with my dad.

I really don't know, he is very weak and short of breath. I don't think the Dr thinks he is going to just suddenly die but to me he should be in hospital until they know exactly what is wrong with him. He's lost a stone in a few weeks and they have him on antibiotics too. I think they want to wait until he has had ct scan.

My dad had lung cancer and heart failure. The cancer didn't affect him really (he was very old) - it caused no pain and his breathing wasn't too bad, but he'd get very tired. The doctor thought it was his heart that was the problem.

Whenever the MacMillan nurses were there they would always ask whether he was coughing up blood. Always. It was obviously significant. I'm surprised your dad's doctor wasn't concerned about that.

Could you ask for a second opinion?

Just realised of course it's Friday night. Are you able to stay with your dad tonight to see how it goes?

No can't stay over, and I don't think another Dr will come out. He's smoked all his life so we are expecting the worst.

Yes my dad had smoked but hadn't done so for fifty years. It was still smoking related lung cancer. Sad

I hope your dad gets the treatment and help he needs. It's such a difficult time.

I dont think he should be alone. So if no one can stay then he should be admitted.
If he isn’t alone then he should be allowed to decide.

I fear he won't, so many don't these days.
