Life-limiting illness

What do I write on my dad's last ever Father's Day Card? My heart is breaking!

My darling dad has terminal cancer and is now very poorly. I am struggling to write a message on what will likely be my last ever card to him on Father's Day. Should I write a long message as normal, even though he is finding it hard to concentrate due to pain, morphine, confusion or keep it simple. But if I keep it brief, what do I write that would sum up a lifetime's love to him?

I wouldn't just write along the lines of how much you appreciate all he has ever done and no amount of love will give thanks for that. And that he has shaped you into the person you are today and you are thankful for that. if he's struggling to concentrate you could always read it out to him.

I think your description of how hard it is to sum up a lifetime of love in a card is perfect. Flowers

I am so sorry - I am in the same boat. Dad has just been diagnosed with cancer. He is fairly ok at the moment but the prognosis is not good. This may well be our last Father's Day with him. He starts chemotherapy next week.

I chose a card with the words I wanted to say - thank you for all that he has done for us and we love him. It was hard to find cards that weren't all about going out and having fun. He is not well enough to do much at the moment.

How much you love and will always love him. How he has surrounded you and taught you to love. How he has been an inspiration, and one memory: do you remember when we? It was so [funny] and I look back with love..

So sorry to you both.
