Life-limiting illness

Very surreal at the moment.

Apologies, just need a space to dump my thoughts at the moment.
Background, Nov 2015 diagnosed with cancer in the oesophagus, chemo started Christmas Eve, Op and more chemo in 2016, with the all clear in August.

A few weeks ago feeling rough, went to GP who referred me to Oncology. Had a CT scan, and was told Friday the cancer is back, and this time there is no possibility of a cure and it's terminal.

Oncologist wanted to have a chat with some other specialists, and I'm back this afternoon to see her. At least the news can't get any worse, just hoping that there has been a terrible mistake (unlikely, and clutching at straws).

Really thought we were back on track after last year.

I'm so sorry to read your post and just wanted to send a virtual hug. Do you have someone to go to your appointment with you?

Thanks chocatoo, yes my DW is going with me.
I feel so sorry for her, she went through so much last year looking after me and is going to have to go through even worse now.

Sorry to hear this. I am in a similar position too. Diagnosed 8 months ago with a rare aggressive cancer and was told last month that I have around 6 months left.
There is loads of research around new drugs and immunotherapy so if you Google clinical trials for your type of cancer you may find something helpful. Don't be afraid to ask for a second opinion from a specialist hospital such as the Royal Marsden. They may be able to recommend something that could help. Good luck Flowers

I'm so sorry for both of you. Hope your specialist has better news for you.

Sorry to hear your news @PizzaPower

My DH also has cancer in the oesophagus, diagnosed Apr 16. But with liver secondaries and we were told surgery wasn't an option.

I hope your appointment goes as well as possible.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments.
As expected the diagnosis was confirmed. I couldn't ask for anything more from my Consultant. She sent us straight round to the attached cancer support centre, with the promise that all the paperwork for any benefits and life policies would be dealt with as quickly as she could.
At the moment we're trying to deal with the shock, but also the 'admin' so that doesn't get in the way when having treatment.
