My Dparents have signed a contract for some doors (front+back) and paid 10%.

DBro was concerned about the fact the Company did DoorStep Selling and DParents had no other quotes.

The price is extremely high compared to some online searches I've done.

OK, you say. No-one forced them and they're adults.

But , though I don't think (from what my DDad says) there was any pressure selling I know they can be very persuasive. I was really surprised he signed it, he's usually very diligent.

So I found out the details of the company and their online reviews are frankly shit Angry
And the Customer Services seems lacking (from reviews) . I cannot get through by phone but I've emailed.
They are not GGF registered (I went on the GGF website)

So, I'm reading about a 14 day CoolOff Period if the contract is signed outside of a commercial premesis (their house) and we're within the 14 days.
And I cann't imagine they're a customised product - bog standard doors. Their old doors arent that old but they stick. (My door needs a hefty shove in Summer too)

So :
questions-
the company should hopefully wait till after the COP before they get the doors (I did read its 14 days after Delivery but not sure if that applies to doors.

If he cancels (which I have stringly adviced him to do) will he lose the deposit? Better to do that than the full amount for a bad product (from reviews)

Would he be liable for a % of the amount for breaking the contract?

DH did an online search , there's history in this firm of changing names (at least 3 times) when going out of business and reforming.

And there seems to be a history of targetting elderly people .

Thanks for reading so far, I'm going to phone Citizens Advice then contact DDad and if he agrees , I'll contact the Company. He's understandably worried about this.
we're Angry

I just signed up for new windows ,and paid a £100 deposit ,I've just checked and the company's address is the same as an old company who did a really bad job of building us a leaky conservatory a few years back ..The first company simply frames are going into liquidation according to companies house but are still trading ,so it looks like they have just giving themselves a new name ,what made us check was a peice of paper the salesman had in his case with simplyframes on it ...iam glad to hear about the 14 day cooling off period and will be canceling the cheque first thing in the morning. .

I work for a double glazing company. Check and see I found the company are FENSA registered. Even though the company is not with GGF they have legal advise for consumers on their website. Decent companies don’t door stop sell as they don’t need too. I would imagine they will want cancellation in writing so email them immediately and follow it up with a phone call and recorded delivery letter. If you do need to replace your windows use only a FENSA registered company (you can find a list of fitters on their site) and cross reference it with CHECKATRADE and you won’t go far wrong.
