I was wondering if anyone could offer any advice.
At the moment it seems my stbxh and I have reached an agreement over our divorce, we have not had any legal advice yet.
Is there a way of us going to a lawyer together, getting them to check that what we have agreed is fair to both parties and then draw up an agreement? If so, what type of lawyer would do this and how can you find one that would help us resolve it all and come to a divorce quickly?

Independent legal advice is required, a solicitor cannot act for you both. HOwever you could go to mediation together and the mediator can write down what you have agreed so that it then just a question of the solicitors checking the agreement complies with the law, and drafting the agreement into a form which is acceptable to the courts.

It is right that a solicitor can not act for you both.

But you do not NEED to deal with this via solicitors either.

It is choice and should be based on what is best for you and your family.

I would recommend mediation in the first instance.

You can always instruct a solicitor or apply to the court at a later date.
