Can I get my file from my solicitor?

Hi, I instructed a solicitor to deal with a matter for me. The matter is complete and I have paid them fully. Now I want a copy of the file or original file of the work they did - I have emailed repeatedly asking for this but no reply. I suspect they did not carry out the work as promptly and effectively as they could have . Am I able to get this file to check their work? Many thanks in advance

Yes, you are entitled to your file so long as it's paid up.

Yes you are. Please stop emailing and write a letter to the Senior Partner asking for the file.

I've been emailing the owner solicitor who's firm it is. Unfortunately now he is the only fully qualified solicitor in the firm. Also emailed the trainee that was working on the job. Trainee has now responded that I will need to arrange an appointment with the solicitor to get the file but he is busy and so this will not be before next week. An appointment just to collect a file - is that normal?

No, it's not normal. All they have to do is bung it in a large envelope with your name on and leave it at reception for you to pick up, together with a receipt for you to sign on pick-up.
