Cheated by the Agent we Trusted

I really need your wise advice on this issue as it's haunting me & stressing our life as a family.
After 11 years in a business with my husband with 2 kids (13 & 9) and the 3rd one born last summer, I couldn't juggle business & family life so decided to stop working and resigned from the Limited Company & transferred my share for free to my husband so I could concentrate on the kids and baby.
Back in 2010, we contacted an agent to sell the business by August 2010, I signed the documents and around october/ november, we got few calls & viewers from potential buyers but no deal was done.
Around 8 months later, we didn't hear from neither the Agent nor any interested buyer.
When I had the baby last summer, I decided to resign as a director from the company & transfer my shares to my husband so I could reduce the level of stress since I had to be induced to give birth earlier than due date due to mum not eating enough & well & baby not growing enough...
Couples of weeks after I gave birth, I receive a phone call from the Agent that we haven't heard from for over. Year asking me to pay their fees for selling my business!!!
Tried to explain that there was no money involved and the transfer was between husband & wife but they insisted that they were entitled to their fees and letters from their solicitor started coming with threats to take me to court.
When I started getting some legal advice, I realised that they made me sign as a personal seller and not on behalf of the company.
English is my 3rd language, and as far as I signed where they asked me to sign, I was signing on behalf of the company selling the company but from the sound of it, I was selling my part on the company or I was sling the whole company even my husband's share without his knowledge Or he was there in every single meeting we had with the Agent and they knew we were partners in a limited company.
Now they wrote to my solicitor asking for a list of documents & threatening to take me to court to recover their £10000 fees!
I am so stressed out and have nightmares. I got cheated by the same people I/we trustedHmmHmmHmm
Please, please help me with your advice and tell me whether there is a way out of this situation?
Thank you

Don't pay. They're trying it on, but do take legal advice and don't ignore the letter. Do respond to it.

Thank you for your quick response.
I have a solicitor on it and they changed solicitor themselves after few letters between them & us and a no heard from them for over a month, a new solicitor wrote to us asking for all the documents related to the transaction, or all we have are my resignation from the co and shares transfer with a value of £1.

Listen to your solicitor. Without knowing the exact terms of your agreement with the agent no-one else can give you sensible advice.
