finding an old will

My Dad passed away in August 2010 - we knew he was dying so he and my mum transferred everything into her name, except the house.

My Mum died in September 2012 - I've got probate and am now in the process of trying to sell the house. The solicitor dealing with the sale has requested a copy of my dad's will to confirm that his will was executed properly as apparently they were tenants in common, not joint tenants.

I don't have a copy of his will or who he wrote it with - any ideas how I might get a copy?

Who dealt with his estate when he died? Did he have a solicitor? They may still have a copy.

I don't know who did his will. My mum just sorted stuff out herself. Didn't do probate - which I think she should have done now I know the house wasn't in joint tenancy

Chances are that he will have been given a copy of the will and the original will be in storage. So the first thing is for your mum to thoroughly search the house for the copy will.

The name and address of the solicitor or will writer will be on the front or back page of the copy will, and you can take it from there.

God I'm so sorry, just realised your mum passed away recently. Sad

I've been through all her stuff and can't find a copy of his will. I've called the solicitor who I think may have written their previous wills to see if they have a copy.

Handily my dad's sister thinks she knew who they wrote it with. All just so bloody complicated
